With Mother’s Day behind us, I reflect on our Mother’s/Father’s Day Contest - the strong participation from local residents, as well as the buzz it generated in some of our local businesses. I am thrilled to offer these contests, along with other local businesses who are dedicated to serving our community.
I support local whenever possible. I often visit Bayview Avenue for 5 local business stops; fish from Dela Mer, cheese at Alex's Cheese Farm, flowers from Passion Fruits, bread from Rahier, and cupcakes from Tori and Kates - all part of my weekly routine.
Another favorite stop is Grilltime. Andy and his staff are simply lifesavers in my busy life. Whether I am entertaining groups, having a casual dinner with my family, or ordering a move-in-day-meal for a client, Grilltime comes through with delicious food and consistently excellent service.
As a long-time resident and customer, I know the shop owners by name and they know my preferences. I trust their advice and our relationship makes me feel connected to the community – all while supporting the local small businesses that help give our community that “small town” feel we cherish.
I value local businesses and hope they are around for many years to come. Over the last 16 years, I have watched our community change. Change often results in progress but not without some growing pains. We are fortunate to have the park systems, sporting organizations and our new crowing jewel, the double pad at Leaside Memorial Gardens Arena. I had the opportunity to chair the fundraising for the double pad to help it become the reality we now enjoy.
Another reality is the development all around us. Condos are rising, older homes are knocked down to make room for newer models and yes, big box stores have arrived - inevitable in our growing GTA.
While we can't stop development, we do have choices. If we want to maintain our "small town" feeling, we MUST support our local businesses.
Thanks to all residents who joined our contest. There ‘s still time to complete ballots for Father’s Day – visit contest page for more details. NOTE: with the exception of existing winners, Mother's Day ballots will be added to the Father's Day draw.
Consumers have the opportunity to receive superior products and services from our local merchants.
Our local merchants help preserve the small town flavour of our community.
When we support local, we all win!
