It is the Summer so what’s a parent to do to keep the kids happy and busy? Thankfully, Toronto is full of incredible, kid friendly places and activities that are fun for the whole family to enjoy. I can think of 10 fantastic places to spend time where there is always sonething for everyone no matter the age. After widdling down the list, the 5 go-to's that left the largest smiles on my little one throughout the years include;
Ontario Science Centre
Keep learning all summer long with a trip to the Ontario Science Centre. There are more than 500 interactive exhibits, making this destination the perfect activity for a day trip with the family. With so many exhibits to explore, you can make several trips to the Science Centre and discover something new each time! Be sure to check out the IMAX Dome Films for an exciting experience where the facility houses a state-of-the-art sound system with 13,000 watts of wrap-around sound from 44 speakers. For details about showtimes and prices, visit their website!
Canada’s Wonderland
Looking for an action-packed adventure this summer? Canada’s Wonderland is just outside of Toronto but is a highlight for most kids in the summer. This massive theme park is filled with almost 70 different rides for kids (and adults) of all ages. With jaw-dropping roller coasters and a huge water park, your day will be filled with non-stop fun for the entire family!
Public Swimming Pools and Beaches
The heat this summer does not seem to be letting up, so make sure you take every opportunity to cool down with a dip in the water. With so many options around the city, you could visit a new pool or beach every single week for the entire summer! Spaces like Woodbine Beach are the perfect beach day locations, with 3 kilometres of sandy beaches to enjoy. If the sand is a little too hot on a sweltering sunny day, visit the Donald D. Summerville Outdoor Olympic Pool just steps away. Both are great options and easily accessible via TTC so the kids won’t be waiting long to cool off!
Outdoor Movies
A new trend that is taking over all of the parks in Toronto this summer is outdoor movie events. A fun experience for young movie buffs, make sure to grab a blanket and some snacks to enjoy a great movie under the stars. Groups like the Regent Park Film Festival are hosting screenings like Pixar’s Coco in Regent Park later this summer. Be sure to check some of the parks in your area to find out what feature films will be screened this summer near you!
Canadian National Exhibition
A Toronto tradition for over 138 years, the Canadian National Exhibition is one of North America’s largest fairs. Taking place in the last two weeks of August leading up to Labour Day, this fair is filled with games, rides, ridiculous food options, and live entertainment. The Midway is sure to keep your kids busy while you visit some of the shopping pavilions, with over 30 different rides to try! If you’re hungry, make sure you visit the Food Building, which offers hundreds of eating options, with plenty of snacks that will satisfy a sweet tooth for both kids and adults!
Stay safe and have fun!
